TO APPLY, you must be:

- An emerging theatre maker at the start of your career
- Available to participate in all the required dates stated below.
- You may be required to attend an audition and/or an interview

Week 4: production week - evening availability is required

Are you an emerging Black theatre maker, aged 18-25, looking to grow, create, and develop your craft?
TYPT is Talawa Theatre Company’s free, intensive 4-week training programme designed to help you develop devising skills and create an original theatre piece from scratch. You’ll work alongside fellow Black artists and established theatre professionals in a supportive, inclusive environment. TYPT offers hands-on mentorship, meaningful collaboration, and the chance to showcase your work in a series of final performances. TYPT is all about building the future of Black theatre, and we want you to be part of it!
IS TYPT FOR YOU?
TYPT is for emerging theatre makers and offers a dedicated space where every part of the creative theatre-making process is explored. It is a chance to develop practice, test ideas, and personally develop within a group while creating a brand-new piece of theatre. To create the ideal environment for this we are looking for people who resonate with the values of this programme, which include:
- Experimentation, play, process-led learning
- Respect, trust and care for each other
- Discipline, commitment, and completion of the process
- Collaboration and teamwork
We especially welcome :
- Those who are considering studying Drama at a Higher Education level
- Those who are actors looking to develop their craft outside of the Higher Education Framework
- Those who live, work, study or have a connection to Croydon
- Those who identify as neurodivergent, D/deaf and/or disabled
Through TYPT we:
- Create a supportive learning environment that allows participants the opportunity to explore social and cultural issues relevant to them
- Engage participants in every stage of the creative process allowing them the freedom to create from their own cultural context
- Provide participants with an invaluable experience of working in a professional theatre environment alongside high-quality theatre practitioners
- Provide a platform for their work to be seen and voices to be heard
